Where to place badges on the uniform and how to wear them.
Badges are a way to show the achievements of young people in Scouting. They are awarded for taking part in activities, learning new skills and making a commitment to the Scout Promise. There are many different types of badges.
Badges are provided by the group and are included in the termly subscription. They are to be sewn onto the uniform in the correct positions.
Core Badges are awarded as part of your child's membership of the Scout Association. They include the Group Name Tape, the World Membership Badge and the District Badge.
Activity badges are awarded for taking part in activities over a period of time. They are worn on the left sleeve of the uniform. They usually require your child to show that they have completed a number of tasks or challenges.
Staged badges are progressive awards. They are awarded in staged difficulty, and carry across all sections (i.e. staged badges achieved at Beavers can be worn on the Cubs or Scouts uniform).
Only the highest stage achieved should be worn on the uniform.
Challenge badges are worn to denote a high level of achievement in a particular area. They are worn on the right breast of the uniform.
Completion of all challenge badges bestows the Chief Scout's Award at each section (Bronze, Silver and Gold for Beavers, Cubs and Scouts respectively).
Log in to Online Scout Manager to view where to place badges. When you have logged in, select Badges, then Uniform to see a diagram of your child's uniform.
Activity and Staged badges must go on the left sleeve, however the order is not important. For all other badges, order does matter. The diagram on OSM will show you where to place them. The City of Newcastle Scout Badge goes where the 'Regional Badges' are shown on the diagram.
