Where to place badges on the uniform and how to wear them.
Badges are a way to show the achievements of young people in Scouting. They are awarded for taking part in activities, learning new skills and making a commitment to the Scout Promise.
Badges are provided by the group and are included in the termly subscription. They should be sewn onto the uniform in the correct positions, shown in the diagrams below.
Core
Awarded as part of membership. Includes the Group Name Tape, World Membership Badge and District Badge.
Activity
Awarded for taking part in activities over time. Worn on the left sleeve. Your child must complete a number of tasks or challenges.
Staged
Progressive awards in staged difficulty. They carry across all sections — only the highest stage achieved should be worn.
Challenge
Worn on the right breast for high achievement in a particular area. Completing all challenge badges earns the Chief Scout's Award.
Select your child's section below to see where each badge goes on their uniform. Activity and Staged badges go on the left sleeve in any order. For all other badges, position matters — follow the diagrams carefully.
The City of Newcastle District Badge goes where "Regional Badges" are shown on the diagram.
